ARTISAN EDITION:

NUMÉRO 202020 x KAMISHOVKA CERAMIC STUDIO

At NUMÉRO 202020, we believe in the beauty of collaboration and the magic that happens when different art forms come together. Our latest venture takes us into the world of ceramics, partnering with the charming KAMISHOVKA CERAMIC STUDIO in Munich. This collaboration has given birth to a collection of bespoke ceramic cups with matching plates, each piece meticulously handcrafted and imbued with artistic flair.
The journey began with a serendipitous meeting with Tory, an exceptional artist and craftswoman whose passion for ceramics is as vibrant as her creations. Drawn to her dedication and the intricate beauty of her work, we knew immediately that a collaboration would yield something truly special.

THE ARTISTIC PROCESS

Tory Schmied: "As a ceramic artist, my work is an exploration of the harmony between organic textures and refined forms. This collection, made from black and white clay, showcases the natural beauty of the materials through subtle contrasts. The unglazed exterior preserves the raw, tactile feel of the clay, while the interior is coated with a clear glaze, creating a smooth, polished surface that complements the rustic texture. The irregular, organic shapes of the cups emphasize the handcrafted nature of each piece, embodying both simplicity and sophistication. Through these pieces, I aim to merge the elegance of minimalism with the authenticity of natural forms."

THE POTTERY WHEEL

Our ceramic collection starts its life as raw clay, which is skillfully shaped by hand. In the initial stages, the cups are hand thrown on the pottery wheel. For the plates, Tory employs a technique known as handbuilding, a method that allows for a high degree of creativity and individual expression.
The clay is carefully molded into the form of cups and plates, each piece unique and slightly different from the next, reflecting the artistry involved. Our pottery is branded with our unique pottery stamp, carefully pressed into each cup and plate, ensuring a mark of authenticity and craftsmanship.
The video captures the delicate process, showing Tory’s hands at work, shaping and smoothing the cup. The tactile nature of her craft is evident in this video, emphasizing the human touch behind each piece.

SANDING & REFINING

Before the pieces can be fired for the first time, they must be carefully sanded and refined. This meticulous step ensures a smooth surface. The video of this process shows the attention to detail that goes into preparing each piece, highlighting the craftsmanship involved.

THE GLAZING PROCESS

Once the pieces are fired for the first time, the next phase involves glazing. This step is both an art and a science, as the glaze not only adds sheen but also transforms the clay into a durable, functional piece. We see a video of the glazing process, where both Tory and Kathrin meticulously apply the glaze, ensuring even coverage and artistic consistency.

THE FIRING PROCESS

The final stage of our ceramic journey takes place in the kiln. This is where the magic truly happens, as the high temperatures solidify the clay and set the glaze, transforming the pieces into their final, beautiful form. Images of the kiln loading process provide a glimpse into this crucial step, showing the careful placement of each piece to ensure an even firing.
